This is the modern version of a cut and polish, it is also a far more involved process. High end detailing is based around Paint Correction. Vehicle is foam bathed, rinsed and carefully washed. The paint is thoroughly decontaminated, chemically and physically, with Iron X and clay bar. Vehicle is then brought indoors and inspected with specialist lighting to access paint condition. A digital coating thickness gauge is used to test the paint depth, giving a better indication of how much paint we have to play with. This way we safely know how much paint/clear coat we can safely remove to achieve the desired result, whilst preserving the paint for the future.
A test section is then carried out to determine, which machine, products, pads and technique will best achieve the desired result, this is because different vehicle manufactures use different paint systems, and the way each product responds varies. The condition of every car varies greatly too. This is why paint correction is a very custom procedure, as opposed to the standard “cut and polish” that most people know.
Stage 1 Paint Correction – From $660
Involves using a light compound/polish to remove/reduce defects such as swirling, scratches, holograms (marks left behind from incorrect polishing technique) water spot etching, bird dropping etching. By levelling these defects, clarity and gloss is greatly improved. This is suited mainly for lighter colour cars. A full day is required.
Stage 2 Paint Correction – From $1200
Involves a heavier compounding stage first, to achieve greater correction, followed by a polishing/finishing stage to refine further, increasing clarity and gloss. Most darker coloured cars require a stage 2. Two full days are required.
Stage 3 Paint Correction – From $1800
Involves heavy compounding first, then an intermediate step of heavy polishing/refining and then a final stage of further refining/finishing. This is generally for vehicles with heavy defects present, or those looking for the highest level of perfection and show car finish for their paintwork. At least 3 days is required.
